So the avg price for a Metropolitan areas domestic itinerary fare in the 4th quater of 2009 is listed according to bts.gov (Bureau of Transport Statistics). We have this ....are my tax dollars paying for this bureau ... Ok back on subject. So in other words some airline has used duct tape to keep some piece of the plane operational. Was there an extra charge for this like a baggage fee ... For me to risk my life, in an airplane and have to pay what we pay for it($356.85 on average in the 4th quater of 2009 .. in metropolitan areas ... lol) ... the use of duct tape does not make me happy ... Now the official line on this is that it is actually heat tape .... uh ... ok ... and by the way it is stronger than duct tape and very common .... LOL ... uhhh .... ok .... It is freaking Tape .... call it gold Tape ... call it the most valuable tape in the world .... I don't care ... but for $356.85 ... I would like more than just tape keeping my plane in the air and operational. Ok .... now personally ... first this was posted at gizmodo.com .... I am not convinced about the veracity of the pic ... looks a little manufactured...but if not..... is it to much to ask for $356.85 ... that I have more than tape on the wings ... come on folks ... is the bottom line worth a few hundred persons lives ... just to save a few $'s .....I mean when the plane first came off the assembly line was there duct tape there??? Did the other persons $356.85 buy a roll ... A challenge to convince me that the $356.85 which is paid by a couple of hundred persons for a flight or two couldn't provide more that just duct tape on the wings.

CPA Exam studying ... opening a business ....doing something I love ....and spending time with my daughter ...WOW what a life HEY ...and getting to watch the WORLD CUP ... ya got to love a vuvuzela ....LOL. Sounds like the killer bees are hovering to attack doesn't it? I do think it is wrong how everyone is we need to ban them...blah, blah, blah.... We just think we own it all we sit on our couches watch the World Cup and tell other cultures how they should be .... LOL ... you don't like the vuvuzela sound turn down the volume .... DING !!!! Well...I just noticed that my last post was...A.V.A.'s birthday...the day she was born. That day I was complaining about all I watched April go through in giving birth. She finally ended up giving birth, that nite @ 10:45 pm...and I watched the entire process. The entire process from start to beginning of a woman giving birth without almost any drugs. Not sure if you can count the 1mg of pain med she took, and I also saw the nurse ask her in the middle of it all...when the contractions were spiking...if she wanted more...and like the trooper she is ... she said 'No' .... it was very, very impressive. So A.V.A. is here. She is adorable. She has raised her head, smiled at me (beyond gas I believe) ... and has consumed our sleep, and our hearts. I am doing the Daddy Daycare thing right now. I spend every day with her while April is at work. It is a great, unique opportunity that every man should experience. You will learn so much about yourself, and about your child. It is also difficult because you are forced to live your own perspectives. I say that regarding my perspective of America having succumb to the greed of it all by having both parents out of the house, with no one at home. I am staying at home right now to provide that support a point I believe that is important. It is important to have someone available to raise the child, one of the parents preferably. If you are not raising your child the question goes to who is? I am learning so many different things from her and April about children. It is a great and draining experience. I am missing my life handbook ... this is the chapter ,that everyone should dog-ear.

Well, April and I arrived at the hospital about 6:15 am this morning. She has been enduring constant poking and prodding all day. Three attempts to break the water ... third times the charm @ 4pm....Now I am doubting if we should have allowed the induction. Oh well, we are now waiting. I am even clearer about why women give birth and not men. My patience sucks...but I am working on it.

God has a great sense of humor ..... Do I need to start to laugh now....or can I wait until the sting wears off. My life takes on a new twist turn ... after resolving to a picture of me in a 2 door mini, wind across my bald brown head .... now that picture changes. What do u do when it changes....dramatically hang on, & scream during this rollercoaster ride ..... when is the puking appropriate .... am I happy...well of course I am .... but DAMN. I feel like the piece of wheat that has endured all in the field ... looking forward to those last cool winters that lead to the end of my life. "POOF" I suddenly have to step outside of me...and live outside of me. My appreciation for my blessings is deep, yet at times I have a problem focusing on them as blessings. It is the mortal, human side of myself. I am not perfect, but I keep wasting time trying to be just 1/2 the man my father was. He wasn't perfect....yet he was to me...in everything he did. I will never forget the last time I saw him with a breath in his body ... I remember his smell, his look it almost haunts and comforts me in my darkest moments, taunts and pushes me in my brightest. I did do a few things right before he passed, I was honest with myself, I am not sure he saw it that way, but I was the man he raised me to be. I read a quote today that was profound for the paranoid, that would be me. It said (in paraphrase) don't worry so much about getting f**ked in the world, it happens, just be aware when your pants are down around your ankles. A lucid point from a 73 yr old man who I am sure has hoisted them up from around his ankles a couple of times during his 73 yr stint in life. Well that is life for now, I am blessed and cursed all in the same breath, and it is just a matter of how I choose to view it. Take care kiddies!!!

Don`t worry we will be back there ... but now I speak of life. You may ask why...well if you have read previously you know I came very close to losing mine...and then shortly thereafter, I lost my father. As many others I now look at my own mortality with fear and irreverence. I have found a certain quantifiable factor which I now am trying to set set free from my body before to many suns set upon my existence....for that time will come....of that I am now sure. This quantifiable factor or tangible piece ... may be no more than the quotes of many who have passed before me or it may be some deep profound thought....the latter I am skeptical of ... but what I do know is before I leave this plane of existence I need to utter it. This need is a driving force....almost like an almost blinding passion that slowly eats away at the interior of my mind. I suppress it, like many others probably....yet it gnaws away desiring to free itself from me. I see it in glimpses .... and then it disappears ... like a shadow that moves past your peripheral and then cloaks itself in the darkness.... and then when you seek it in that shadow by shining the light ... it thins itself ..... like a piece of paper .... showing only its thinnest edge. Leaving you a feeling as if it was your imagination .... the thought was never there. Making you think you were crazy .... but then you think back to this stream of consciousness ..... and like a sentence or my words as you read them now .... the stream just stops and goes underground as streams do out of your sight .... but you know that they lead somewhere ... just as they came from somewhere. These are not the ramblings of a wise or eloquent man just the ramblings of a scared man who has watched all his tomorrows .... the ones he dreamed of .... become his yesterdays. Every nite when I close my eyes I pray silently that I am allowed to have another morning to wake to.... each day is a blessing.

So it is late & I am just sending a post. Need to get back in the habit again. Things are changing in this thing I call life. I am physically feeling much better...emotionally, still miss my dad & my youth...lol. There is something to be said for life at my age though...your appreciation grows by leaps and bounds. You notice people younger than you still fighting to "be good people" ... or better than the people they deem "bad". It makes you wonder why did I waste so much of my energy when I was younger doing that. (I have an admission....I am doing this post from the OQO & I haven`t found the question mark symbol, LOL) Not that I worry about being gramatically correct on my blog.... Anyway, I wonder how much of my life did I give away to looking good, which made others, look or feel bad. You know my FB quote talks about how you made people feel and the profound effect that has on people.

2 marriages later I find ... I didn`t do to well on the second one ... and marginally ok on it my first go round. I learned though that being honest about who you are, with yourself is the source of happiness for all around you. I sought something from # 2 that she could never provide .... peace for my restless soul. I sought a happiness that was not in her playbook ... she never even had that page or that play in her playbook. I am glad we are done ... it is better for both of us ... I would have ended up crazier than I already am .... and she would have hated me more than she does now. For all my jokes I have to say...I want her to find her real happiness ... even though she doesn't understand that concept. She married me to be married, and that is not what I need in this world ...I need a connection....just like I believe we all do. I don't need a soulmate ... just a connection .... someone I can enjoy this life with, who gets me...as I get them. So for all you people out there thinking ... you have the perfect woman or you are the perfect woman .... STOP NOW. Think about my words....they would want to know me intimately....mentally, emotionally, and physically. I am alot of work .... think of it as the Sistine Chapel in the sand ..... thanks for dropping by .... later killas !!!

Alright everyone, it has been over a year since I entered on my blog. I am a different person than I was 1 1/2 years ago. Why you may ask. Well first I almost died last August, I suffered an aortic dissection...in other words my aorta ruptured. YEAH....I had open heart surgery. I was blessed to be where I was in my life at that time. I had wonderful friends who took care of me while I was down, and even after I got back up. Second I lost my father in September. That is right 7 weeks after suffering the previous, I had to bury my father. Once again I was not alone. Life has been an interesting twist of pain and agony, happiness, joy, and suffering.

I miss my father, but the blessing here is that I am here to miss him. Life, what can you say about this thing that provides so much beauty, and so much pain all in the same sweep. you tell me what do you say about it. I love it, and am blessed to have a life.

So this year I obviously will be hitting on the political edge a little more than normal...

I am checking my favorite sites...Consumerist....and they ran all these articles regarding the Congress coming to the aid of the American people with the mortgage assistance programs...and now we have passed a stimulus package....LOL!!! This is going to be funny. Now I know why Allan Greenspan said I am "outta here". Our current administration seems to be at odds with the cyclical nature of our economy. They seem to believe that they can do certain things to keep it afloat....so we have no downturns...or at least it so appears. I am wondering if the terrorist have set off some kind of chemical in the water up there, and everyone has lost good common sense. Since America came into touch with Keynesian perspectives regarding our economy, and through the supreme reign of Alan Greenspan over the Fed...the cyclical nature of our economy has presented itself. It is not a falacy, it is a fact. The term cycle denotes that you have periods where the economy has high points and low points. For some reason, our current administration has propped up the economy during the housing "BOOOM"(Note I use that word in the satirical sense) and is now attempting to keep us from experiencing the downside, which means that when we do experience the downturn, its magnitude will be potentially devastating. At some point, the market will shift and there will be nothing anyone can do to stop it.

Please get that I am not (100%) against this proposed legislation. I just see it as another patch against something that we created earlier. At the top of the housing "BOOOOM" the administration kept telling us that everything was ok. Then the housing sector opened up (interest rates were kept low to induce the market) and went haywire...house values through the roof.....houses being valued for mortgages at almost 1.25 to 1.50 of their actual value....people racking up insane amounts of debt tied to their houses. Households making over $100K a year unable to afford a decent house, due to the overinflation of the housing market. During this period, I viewed a mobile home on 3 acres of land, and the wanted 95K+....get that folks....$95,000 for a single wide(and an old one at that, which had been butchered up to make it lok more like a house) on 3 acres of property with a stream running through it. LOL, Greed folks...just plain unadulterated greed. I have read stories of people taking advantage of one another over and over again during this spending/borrowing frenzy....Well it is time to pay the piper....Oh No not yet...not during my administration...we will leave the mess for the next administration.....WOW.

You know though, we have been doing that in America for a long time.... passing the buck to the next generation....passing it to the next administration.....one day our children will teach us, our undereducated, debt riddled children will pull the plug.....For all you baby boomers like me...think Logan's Run and get ready to go the special place. Senate OKs FHA Mortgage Bill [Subprime Meltdown]

On Friday the Senate passed new legislation that would make more Federal Housing Administration Loans available to troubled borrowers facing foreclosure, lowering the down payment required and allowing larger loans. The House passed similar legislation in September, and now House and Senate members will have to "resolve a number of differences between the two pieces of legislation," says the Wall Street Journal.

Bloomberg observes:

"The agency's loan terms, which are more stringent than those of many lenders, may have caused some borrowers to turn to subprime mortgages. Housing officials estimate that the legislation will help about 200,000 homeowners who have fallen behind on their mortgage payments."

The housing industry, including home builders and real estate agents, pushed for the legislation because they will benefit from the expansion of F.H.A. loans, says Bloomberg.

"This legislation is the perfect example of the kind of help Americans are looking for," Senator Charles E. Schumer, a New York Democrat who was a sponsor of the bill, said on the Senate floor. "It is definitely and desperately needed."

Looking Back: The Subprime Meltdown Explained By The NYT... In 2002 [Nostalgia]

The end of the year is a time for looking back and reflecting on the past. Perhaps learning from it. With that in mind we poked around the NYT archive and found a great article on the subprime mortgage market and predatory lending from 2002.

THE subprime mortgage industry, which serves people with bad or blemished credit histories, has burgeoned in the economic boom of the last 10 years, allowing people previously deemed uncreditworthy to buy a home or to raise funds by refinancing their mortgage. But as the industry has expanded, so has its dark seam -- predatory lending.

And as subprime loans have increased, so, too, have foreclosures.

Here's how the March 24, 2002 Times explains the proliferation of subprime lending:

Whatever its degree, the proliferation of predatory lending is certainly the outgrowth of an explosion in the subprime market -- distinct from the prime or conventional mortgage market, which serves buyers with satisfactory credit histories. And the subprime explosion since the early 1990's has been fueled by both the booming economy and the creation of new tools that allow lenders -- including Wall Street investors -- to rapidly assess the risk posed by a whole new group of potential borrowers.

T HIS came about because of computerized credit scoring,'' said Keith Gumbinger, a mortgage analyst and vice president at HSH Associates, a financial publishing company in Butler, N.J. Computerized scoring allows a would-be borrower's credit history to be assigned a single number -- between 300 and 900 -- by which a lender or an investor in mortgage-market securities can determine how likely the applicant is to repay the loan.

''Borrowers can be placed anywhere along that scale,'' Mr. Gumbinger said, ''and investors and lenders adjust their rates and fees to compensate for riskier borrowers.''

''It's the big mortgage lenders who fund smaller lending firms and street-level mortgage brokers that pressed these subprime products and predatory products onto the market in order to serve new audiences and get more people to owe them money,'' Mr. Gumbinger said. For a fee, packed into the loan, brokers bring borrowers and lenders together.

Ms. Ludwig agreed: ''It's not just your rogue broker or lender on the street. This is very much built into the whole investment machinery so that even some of the large banking institutions, Wall Street investment houses and bond insurers have figured out a way to profit handily from this market segment.''

Lenders provide the capital and either hold the loan or, more commonly these days, sell it either to another financial institution that buys up bundles of loans or to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, the federally chartered corporations that buy first mortgages at discounts, insure and then resell them. ''Or it's often securitized through the packaging of these loans, which are then sold through Wall Street investment houses,'' Ms. Ludwig said, ''usually to institutional investors. Without the secondary market, without securitization, you wouldn't have this proliferation of subprime and predatory lending.''

The article also concentrates on "predatory lending" techniques that probably seemed much more isolated than they really were. For example, one profiled consumer was told she was signing up for a 30-year fixed rate mortgage, only to find out that (you guessed it) she'd signed a ARM with a 1-year teaser rate of 5.5%.

Housing Market Meltdown Making Sellers Extremely Creative [Subprime Meltdown]

It's not new news that the housing market is in the dumper. That's generally good news for buyers, but shall we say less than optimal if you're looking to sell your home any time soon. So what's a seller to do? Looks like creativity is the name of the game. Sellers are dipping into their handbag of tricks to try and unload properties worth more yesterday than they are today (and worth even less tomorrow) Here's a sampling of what sellers are doing:

· A Pittsburgh couple will fully refund the home's selling price when they pass away.

· Owners in Florida are holding a raffle in hopes of getting close to their selling price.

· Others are giving away free cars and using their kids as advertising.

· One owner is even considering giving away his house and taking the tax write-off.

We're betting that we'll eventually see a person willing to pay someone to take their house!

Credit Slips' Adam Levitin takes a look into the possibly even grimmer future of the housing market. We'll let him explain it because he's smart:

...this graph from Credit Suisse is the most sobering thing I've seen in a while. Mortgage_rate_resets It shows that most of the interest rate resets ahead aren't subprime, but are instead Alt-A and option-ARMs...

Alt-A is the category of loans made to consumers with FICO scores just above the subprime threshold. Option ARMs give borrowers several payment options, including making a minimum payment that does not even cover the interest that accrued in the last month. This means it's pretty easy for an option ARM to end up underwater, even in a market where prices are holding steady. If real estate prices are dropping, it is even more likely that an option ARM will end up upside down, which makes refinancing near impossible. The bulk of the Alt-A and option-ARM resets are coming in 2010-2011. A lot of things could change before then. But we might just be seeing the tip of the iceberg in the housing market.Do you think all those people will be able to afford their resets?

Protesters Taunt Goldman Sachs Employees By Singing "Frosty The Goldman" Outside Company Christmas Party [Videos]

Last week a clutch of protesters sang parodic carols outside the Goldman Sachs Christmas party at the hoity-toity BLVD club to protest the companies involvement with subprime mortgages. The activists and homeowners are mad at Goldman for betting that the subprime market would tank, while still urging their clients to invest heavily in it. However, someone might want to tell the carolers that Goldman doesn't issue residential mortgages. Oops. In any event, their song is pretty funny. Economic Stimulus Plan Passes [Taxes]

Accord was reached and the economic stimulus plan has passed. Here's a brass tacks breakdown:

Workers making at least $3000 but not paying federal income taxes: $300

Income tax paying individuals: $600

Working couples: $1200

People with children: extra $300 per child

Individuals making $87,000 and couples up to $174,000: partial rebates

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loan purchase limits increased to 725,000, a boost from the $362,000 and $417,000 caps, respectively.

Businesses can write off 50% of purchases of capital equipment

Small businesses can write off additional equipment purchases

Tentative Economic Stimulus Deal Reached [Rebates]

The Administration and Congress have negotiated the outline of how the proposed economic stimulus plan will play out. Here's how much in rebates you could be getting back, depending on your situation:

Workers who get a paycheck (even if they don't earn enough to pay federal income taxes): $300
Workers who pay income taxes: $300+
Families with children: $300 per child, with a cap of perhaps $1200 total.
Individuals who make $75,000+ or couples who make $150,000+: nothing.

Drat, no Mormon bonanza.

I don't mean to be the town crier....but folks....this .20 the Government is talking about giving us back of our own money...is not the solution. It is time to batten down the hatches and brace for the tsunami. Big business is and the government is helping them...but for us the consumers (mainly due to our own greed and ignorance) they are handing us a couple of dollars...smiling at us, dropping their heads(in shame) cause they know what is going to happen.

The sad part is we are standing their with our hands out as they hand us our own money....and glad about, with no accountability for their actions, for the mess they have created. Then we got another group of idiots slugging it out to get in where we already have idiots, and we all have opinions about that group of idiots, but why are we not asking why do they want to get into such a big mess. There has got to be something in it for them...what is that something. For all you Hillary Haters out there, for all of you who want to assail the name of Mr. Obama, for all who think John McCain is unstable, for all those of you who think Mr. Huckabee, or Mr. Kucinich (Did I spell that right?) or Ron Paul (Who the hell is this guy?) can save us...and think that things are not right economically, or with our healthcare system, or our education system, why are they so eager to get into this position of power...without giving us (in hand, each and everyone of us) a copy of what their solutions are to these huge problems that are eroding the very fabric of our country. Why do they want in there so bad? Can we ask that question at a debate....PLEASE...oops and get a straight answer. politician = straight answer HMMMMMM! NOT!!! Do Presidential Candidates Care About Consumer Issues? [Politics]

Most Presidential candidates couldn't care less about consumer protection, but several have taken a stand on one of the sexier consumer issues: toy safety.

Consumer rights attorney and friend of the blog Sam Glover looked to see which candidates supported bills on our list of noteworthy legislation from the 110th Congress.

Dennis Kucinich co-sponsored the Arbitration Fairness Act and the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. John McCain co-sponsored the Internet Tax Freedom Act. Barack Obama co-sponsored the Industrial Bank Holding Company Act (whatever that is). And Hillary Clinton co-sponsored the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act. If co-sponsoring is an expression of a legislator's interest in and desire to be identified with a particular piece of legislation, then this is a pretty disinterested showing, although Kucinich does seem to have a passing interest.

Only the College Cost Reduction and Access Act actually got a roll-call vote in both chambers, and the candidates apparently voted the party line, assuming Democrats favored the act and the Republicans opposed it.Some legislators are cosponsor whores, willing to anything to get their name on moving legislation, but Presidential candidates pick their legislation carefully, often preferring to write their own bills—which usually go nowhere but look good on paper.

Since not all Presidential candidates are sitting legislators, we decided to look at their websites to see who cares about toy safety, one of the more press-worthy consumer issues of 2007.

Candidate's websites are a good barometer of interest. Unlike debates or impromptu Q&A sessions, candidates have exclusive control over the issues discussed on their sites. Staffers don't add material without approval, and the positions presented are the idealized version of what the candidate would enact into policy, if elected.

Our methodology was simple. We attacked each website with our google ninja skills. Here is what we uncovered.

Democrats

Barack Obama: Obama went so far as to call for a complete ban on lead-ridden toys from China, though his aides quickly corrected his statement, but not before Beijing could lambast his plan as "unobjective, unreasonable and unfair."

In 2005, Obama introduced the Lead-Free Toys Act, which would require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to ban children's products containing more than a trace amount of lead. Following news reports that millions of Chinese-made toys were being recalled because of lead paint, he has also directly pressured toy manufacturers and Bush administration officials to do a better job protecting American children from the threat of imported toys, especially those manufactured in China.

As President, Obama will enact a plan to protect Americans from unsafe products. In addition to banning lead-tainted toys and increasing fines for companies that fail to disclose known safety hazards with their products, Obama will:

Double the funding for the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and make sure it has the inspectors it needs to ensure that the goods we're buying are safe.
Expand the Consumer Product Safety Commission's regulatory powers, and help the agency respond quickly and efficiently when it's alerted to a problem.
Increase fines for companies that fail to disclose known safety hazards with the products they're making.
Appoint a chairman with a proven record of standing up for consumer safety.

Hillary Clinton: Hillary agrees that the CPSC needs to be improved, but also endorses the industry's sham proposal for third-party testing.

"In America in 2007, the products Americans buy should be safe and secure. As President, I would:

Immediately require independent third-party testing for at-risk imported toys to ensure they are safe before they can be put on our shelves and sold.
Dramatically increase the number of product inspectors and deploy them as part of a strategy to meet the threat posed by imported toys.
Establish a complete ban on lead in children's products.
Increase and enforce both civil and criminal penalties for violators.
Require selected companies to pay a bond pending completion of third party testing to protect consumers and taxpayers from fly-by-night foreign importers.
Improve our system of toy recalls so that parents get swift notification and companies face swift sanctions if they don't remove recalled products from their shelves."

John Edwards: Populist ex-Senator John Edwards takes a little from both Obama and Clinton.

Ban Lead in Children's Products: The ingestion of any amount of lead is harmful. As president, Edwards will ask the CPSC to prohibit lead at any level above the most minute trace amounts in children's products including toys and jewelry. [CU, 2007; Best, 2007; Best, 2004]

Require Independent Testing: Edwards will require manufacturers and private-label resellers to certify that the children's products they sell have been tested to meet U.S. safety standards. Testing must be conducted by an independent third-party organization accredited by CPSC, and products that have not have been certified should be banned.

Stop Risky Products at the Border: Until effective independent testing of all toys is in place, Edwards will give the Customs Service and the CPSC the authority to detain shipments of toys containing paint or magnets without independent safety certification - just like the Food and Drug Administration temporarily detained Chinese seafood - and hold them until testing of a random sample demonstrates that they are safe.

Provide the CPSC with the Power and Resources it Needs: To deter even large companies from marketing dangerous products, Edwards will increase the maximum civil fine to $100 million. He will give CPSC authority to act far more quickly, rather than giving manufacturers 30 days notice while children's safety is at stake. Finally, he will double resources for the CPSC. All the Democrats agree: lead is bad and the CPSC is woefully underfunded. Are there any meaningful differences between the proposals?

No.

Republicans

Things became more difficult here. We don't want to say Republicans don't care about toy safety, but if their websites are any indication, the Republican Presidential candidates don't think the federal government has any responsibility for toy safety. Of the six potentially viable Republicans candidates, we found only one passing mention addressing toy safety.

Mike Huckabee: During an in-depth three paragraph look at our relationship with China, Governor Huckabee acknowledged that our children's toys are "not safe."

Looking forward we've got to do a better job to balance our trade relationships, especially with China. We have not challenged them enough on intellectual property rights Nor have we challenged them enough on the regulatory front. That's why we see products coming into this country, particularly food, whether it's ours or our pets that is not safe. Even our children's toys have recently been recalled because they're not safe. The result is what I think ought to be considered an alarm sounding off that something isn't quite right in what now is becoming a very unbalanced relationship, specifically with the Chinese.

That is all. Romney, Thompson, and Giuliani all focus on China's growing economic dominance without addressing the quality of products coming from the east.

We can infer Ron Paul's position because he is one of the few candidates with a clearly defined political ideology. A quick glance at Article 1 Section 8 doesn't seem to mention toys, lead, or the CPSC. Paul would likely scrap the Consumer Product Safety Commission and let the market fix the industry's defective toy addiction.

Senator John McCain's failure to mention toy safety is especially egregious. The Senator chaired the powerful Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee that handles most consumer issues for six years, but apparently doesn't think consumer protection should be part of his Presidential campaign.

The Bush Administration has trashed the CPSC. Congress put the ailing agency on life support with plans to infuse staffers and funds, but it will take a renewed commitment from the next Administration to empower the agency to keep Americans safe. Toy safety is just one of many consumer issues the next President will face. Candidates who are not willing to mention toy safety during the campaign are sending a clear signal that neither the CPSC nor consumer protections will matter much in their Administrations.

Well, that is what they deem as important...I think it pretty well sums it all up. WE DO NOT MATTER TO THEM....SAD AND THEY ARE CRYING FOR OUR VOTES, THEY ARE PRESENTING THEMSELVES TO REALLY CARE....For the record I am not a Hillary Hater, and do not get why she is so reviled. I have yet to hear from anyone a valid reason as to why they hate her so much, it is funny. I think it is a product of the media, and for the record I am not a Hillary Lover either, I am a Republican, and if the party weren't so damn corrupt at times...I would like to vote for them again. But the DNC, can't seem to get its freaking act together...they have two of the strongest candidates they have had since Clinton....and they are just letting them shred one another....HEY DNC....FREAKING MANAGE THIS SITUATION.....Ok, enough of that rant...

So sometimes business loses perspective or forgets the message....this in turn brings out the Christian Right Wingers and even I have to agree with them. So Wally-World(The Walton Empire that added 5-6 new millionaires to Forbes list several years ago) was selling a product that, even though I am not a parent horrifies me. I am just curious how many of this product they sold prior to their corrective action. Walmart "Junior" Panties Suggest That Your Genitals Are Better Than Credit Cards [Gross]

Over at Feministing, a reader noticed these panties in the "juniors" section at the Wal-Mart on Kildare Farms Road in Cary, NC.

While we can't disagree with the strict literal interpretation of the message, perhaps Walmart should consider printing it on a wallet, rather than on panties meant for teenage girls. The whole prostitution angle is clouding the message of fiscal responsibility. Hey, it's just a suggestion.

The panties, which were sold in the juniors department, seemed to suggest that girls don't need money, they just need a sugar daddy -- in this case Santa Claus.

So I am doing what many 40+ males do at the top of the new year. That is right I am working out. I am over half way through my week and have gotten in my scheduled work outs everyday. I am excited that I made a good call. Rather than going out and buying a gym membership I decided to begin with a home workout, and if I show the same resolve for the next 6 months I will go purchase the membership then. TA-DA...HAHA!!! We will see how we are doing at the end of the month...lol...not funny. My doctor visit told me that I have lost over 30 pounds within the last 6 months. My blood pressure was high...very high actually, and showed me that I do not have the option of not taking my medication. That is the bad news, but the good news is the weight loss. I am documenting my actions (food, exercise progress) everyday. More to come...and remember kiddies.....

Abortion.....a thought....men may want to consider this...

So I was having a conversation, with a young lady regarding abortion. Since these conversations are such a "hot button", I don't state my views, but I always say that I do not think anyone has the right to legislate what happens to a woman's uterus. I do not have the right, nor does anyone to legislate what should occur to a woman's body. Now, you don't have to agree with me. That is all fine.

Here I want to make the point to men. I am speaking to any men who can influence the idea of legislation regarding abortion. Please understand this, I will explain it starting from the beginning. A fetus is located in the uterus of a woman. They are the host to babies while the develop. Their uteri are essentially the housing of the baby. An abortion is an umbrella term to essentially describe cleaning the baby out of the uterus essentially killing the embryo. OK, there are the basics. I think we can all agree on these basics. Now....when we talk about legislating abortion, we really (in my opinion) are legislating what happens within a woman's uterus. So in other words we are in a spot of potentially legislating a woman's uterus. It is a bit of a stretch, but really think about it.

So men I want you to consider this one point...if we legislate what happens to women's bodies...how long before they are able to legislate what happens to our bodies? Like what if they say to us after awhile all men will be neutered, to squelch the raging testoterone related issues which plague our society. I mean scientific breakthrough are happening everyday, our testicles could become more of a menace to society, and laws could be created to rid society of the menace, by neutering us all. In neutering us all, they could save our testicles, science could attempt to reproduce the the chemical, if the succeed....TA DA !!! Men with testicles would become useless and because they may seem a little more aggressive. It could be legislated that all men need to be neutered. It is plausible. It is a slippery slope. I know conjecture to the highest level. You also may be thinking I will never see that in my lifetime, but if we attempt to legislate what happens to womens bodies now, they may legislate what happens to your sons bodies later. Just think about it.

Cleaners caught Mr Stewart simulating sex with a bike

A man caught trying to have sex with his bicycle has been sentenced to three years on probation.

Robert Stewart, 51, admitted a sexually aggravated breach of the peace by conducting himself in a disorderly manner and simulating sex.

Sheriff Colin Miller also placed Stewart on the Sex Offenders Register for three years.

I saw an article earlier that said that our new Fed Reserve Chairman Bernanke suggested to sure up the economy from the impact of the upcoming issues regarding forclosures, that the government should act as a guarantor on the large ticket homes essentially. then assume them and sell the loans in the secondary market. You know any ones over 1 million dollars. Now my accounting degree left me a little lacking regarding finance and the markets....but I think that his idea was for the government to essentially guarantee large loans for 1Mil dollar homes. ???? ???? ???? I am trying to clean the blog up a bit so I will just use this acronym.

Why is the government going to go and hook up the rich, by guaranteeing their loans, while you have people scraping by on less than $25,000/yr fighting to hold onto their homes, and raising a few kids?

That is blatant cronyism. Isn't it? No, I recognize this. More backwash from that trickle down perspective. If you really want to help the economy...shore up the housing market for 80% of the current home buyers who could use their government backing them not 3% of the population who can afford to go somewhere else if the go into default.

Now, I have that out of my system...I think the idea is preposterous (sp?) that the government backs any loan to steady the economy. We should have thought of that when the whole housing fiasco was happening. At the same time, the government knew what it was doing, but they also knew that without it our economy was going to spiral downward....so they used it to delay the inevitable. Now it is going to be worst.....so genius Bernanke thinks the answer is to put the fragile structure of our governments financial backing to prop it up. It is this kind of thinking that is going to leave our children with an even bigger mess to clean up. The great part is we are doing a 1/2 a.... job of educating them so most of them will never know the difference.

This was simple question...wasn't it? I got it the trauma was so significant. This article debunks the steady hand of old Rudy. I am having a hard time with the whole 9/11 being the premise of electing this man. What did he do that made such a huge difference? I mean did his office take command of the situation and stop the Emergency Services from running into a building that no one had any idea about its structural integrity? Did his office make sure that there was a back-up plan when the first-responders went down? Did his office ensure that there was no question, and I mean no question about the future of the children whose parents were first responders? I am not sure that he has done all that. With Kerik Indictment, Giuliani Faces New Political Reality

Problem solved!!! Yeah!! So today we are talking about a one item in particular. Our diets as Americans. WOW, I just pick something up from one of the sites I frequent. This piece is some detailed work looking at the food we eat in "fast food' establishments. I am copying all this information here for a variety of reasons. I have worked in the food industry for several years, more than I want to admit. I have worked at "dives", fine dining establishments, and some corporate set ups also. In fact now I am waiting tables (p/t) for one of those corporate set-ups of the steakhouse variety. The amount of food we pack into people is borderline obscene. I wonder when these corporate set-ups will get it. What they need to get is the concept of a more "Tapas" set-up for a menu. Give the customers will get more choices, rather than forcing them to shove a whole platter of stuff the, may or may not want. Sell it in smaller portions, and more variety. For instance, a Delmonico Steak platter is obscene. How about selling six (6) oz. portions of the famed Ribeye(whole), for less, and make so the customer can include a portion of shrimp, or fish, or scallops, or pork tenderloin in another 6 oz portion, then sell veggies at a small (four) 4 oz. for essentially $1-2 per serving, then add potatoes, same size, same prize. Then a side of a sauce(cheese, bernaise(psuedo), mornay(cheese), hollandaise, etc.), accompanied with lemoned water. The customer can choose what pieces they so choose. Let the customer choose more. Give them something more manageable.

Now, I have my theory as to why this is not happening with these corporate types dining establishments. I think they charge the prices they have to charge because none of these restaurants will be here 10-20 years from now, they know it. So they begin by charging exorbitant prices, to receive an early return. So after they have generated the revenue, they can sell it off to some behemoth of a company looking to diversify. This will be at the the peak of the product cycle of the company. This leaves communities, left with a hole, a missing for this establishment which came into the area, provided a few jobs, but also provided something else. A gathering place for people in the community. Last night I had some customers, who were regulars, they brought another couple with them that I did not recognize. At the end of the meal I recognized that these people were so pride of our restaurant and what it provided for them to have visitors come to see them, and be able to see the best of their community, good food, good service(of course). It was a great realization for me. I was very appreciative, that those persons had put that in me and the people I worked with. BIG BUSINESS corporate execs need to experience that and see what I saw in these peoples eyes as we concluded their meal. Then maybe they would get it, or maybe not. These people are wagering the health and well being of every American against making a buck. We are not powerless in this game either, we are eating this garbage the put out, and we eat to much of it, making them responsible for feeding us....with a supplanted message to these money making entities...it is your responsibility to feed us, and take care of us and we will eat whatever you shove down our throats. A then we ask the government to watch them to make sure we are ok, safe, not being poisoned. Does anyone know the word for what is missing here for us the consumer? Yes, Johnny, thank you for raising your hand! That is right Johnny a-c-c-o-u-n-t-a-b-i-l-i-t-y!!!

Fast Food Restaurants & Nutrition Facts Compared

Fast food is bad food. That's pretty much common knowledge these days. The majority of the foods served at fast food restaurants contain an insane amount of calories, tons of fat (including the very evil trans fat), and are high in pretty much everything else that you'd want your food to be low in. Long story short, it's the kind of food you want to avoid eating.

But, you probably know this already. The funny thing is, most of the world doesn't seem to care. The fast food restaurants continue to do just fine because people continue to eat their unhealthy food. So I figured, if you are still going to eat this junk, you might as well at least know which is the best of the worst, and which is the worst of the worst.

To show this, I've compared the nutrition facts of the most popular foods from over 20 popular fast food restaurants to see how each restaurant's version of the same food stacks up against the others. If this isn't enough to convince you to eat less (or none) of this stuff, it will at least give you the information you need to make the better choice and avoid making the worst one. Enjoy...

Best: Sonic (regular)
Sonic's basic french fries are my pick for the best of this comparison. It's not hard to see why either. Due to having the smallest serving size of all of the other fast food restaurants, their large fries ended up being the lowest in every single one of the compared nutrition facts. Not to mention, with 0 grams of trans fat, it was one of just two large french fries that contained 0 grams. The other? Another one from Sonic... this time their cheese fries.
Worst: Dairy Queen (regular) & White Castle (regular)
It was hard to pick an official worst choice here, as there was a lot of trans fat being thrown around. In the end, I went with Dairy Queen's basic fries for being the highest in calories (seriously, 730 calorie fries? Yikes.) and sodium. White Castle's basic fries were also picked here not so much for calories (although at 700, it was right up there in second place) but because of it containing more trans fat (11 evil grams) than any of the others. Of all of the items being compared in this entire comparison, french fries are easily one of the worst all around trans fat offenders.
Notes: For this comparison, I tried to use each fast food restaurant's "Large" french fries. In two cases however, there was no "large" version. So, I instead used whatever that restaurant's largest size was. For White Castle it was "Sack," and for Del Taco it was "Medium."

Best: White Castle (regular) & Wendy's (Jr. Hamburger)
This one should come as no surprise to anyone who has ever seen a White Castle hamburger. They are tiny. And, when it comes to making the least-bad fast food choice, tiny = good. Due to the below average serving size, all but one of its nutrition facts were the lowest in this comparison. The one that wasn't? Trans fat. You'd think with a burger that size they would be able to pull off 0 trans fat per serving. Apparently not. Wendy's Jr. Hamburger on the other hand does pull it off, and combined with being the second lowest in nearly all of the other nutrition facts, they certainly end up as one of the better basic fast food hamburgers.
Worst: Carl's Jr (Big Hamburger)
While the nutrition facts of each fast food restaurant's most basic hamburger were somewhat similar in some cases, the "Big Hamburger" from Carl's Jr is my pick for the worst in this comparison simply based on being the highest in calories and sodium.
Notes: For this comparison I used each restaurant's most basic hamburger. If the restaurant did not have anything simply called "Hamburger," I went with their next most similar and comparable product instead. For Wendy's, I used their "Jr. Hamburger." For Carl's Jr, I used their "Big Hamburger." For Sonic I used their "Jr. Burger." And for Dairy Queen, I used their "Homestyle Burger."

Best: Burger King (Whopper Jr.) & White Castle (Bacon Cheeseburger)
Just like in the "basic" hamburger comparison, White Castle ends up looking like one of the better "advanced" hamburgers due to being relatively small compared to other fast food restaurant's versions. And, this translates into it being the lowest in most of the nutrition facts shown. Burger King's Whopper Jr. on the other hand is my other pick for a couple of reasons, the first obviously being that it contains the least trans fat out of all of the other similar items compared. Also, at just 370 calories, 6 grams of saturated fat, and 570mg of sodium, it also ranks as one of the lowest in many of the other important areas.
Worst: Carl's Jr. (Double Six Dollar Burger) & Too Many Others
Are you ready for this one? The Double Six Dollar Burger from Carl's Jr. contains an insane 1520 calories. That's not a typo. One sandwich contains more calories than some smaller females need... PER DAY. The 111 grams of fat isn't a typo either. That's more fat in one sandwich than most average sized men need per day. Carl's Jr. unfortunately does not provide the trans fat content of their foods, as I for one would have loved to have seen that number as well. Too bad. I wanted to make a second "worst" pick, but there was just too many to choose from. Obviously anything with any trans fat could make it, as well as the items with a ton of saturated fat. And calories... ha! For starters, how about anything with over 700 calories? Or 800? Or maybe 900? How about the nearly 20 items with over 1000 calories? Yikes.
Notes: For this comparison I used each fast food restaurant's more "advanced" sandwiches/hamburgers. The previous comparison used only the most basic and simple hamburger (1 patty, nothing fancy). This comparison basically compares all of the other hamburger type items that exist. As you can tell, there were a lot of them.

Best: Wendy's Chicken Nuggets (5pc)
This one was as easy to pick as can be. The 5 piece chicken nuggets from Wendy's are, as far as fast food goes, fantastic! From its 0 grams of trans fat, to its only 230 calories, these chicken nuggets have it all. The significantly less saturated fat and sodium are great, too. Nice job, Wendy's.
Worst: Dairy Queen Chicken Strip Basket (6pc)
And I thought picking the best item in this comparison was easy. HA! The worst was actually ten times easier. Dairy Queen has somehow managed to turn a 6 piece order of chicken strips into a 1270 calorie meal, more than 1000 calories higher than this category's "best" pick. They then top it off with 12 evil grams of trans fat, and 2910mg of sodium. I do realize that their serving size is larger than that of the other items, but it doesn't change the fact that people can walk into a Dairy Queen and walk out with this craziness as their 6 piece order of chicken strips.
Notes: For this comparison I used each fast food restaurant's version of individual pieces of chicken. This includes nuggets, tenders, rings, popcorn, strips and basically any chicken item that wasn't a sandwich or an actual part of the chicken (such as a whole breast). I also wanted to keep the serving sizes as similar as possible, so I limited this to 5-6 piece items, or, when no amount was given, a "large." Some restaurants only had 2-4 piece items. These items were therefore not included in the above comparison.

Best: KFC (Honey BBQ Snacker)
Another very easy pick for me. KFC's Honey BBQ Snacker wins this comparison hands down. The 0 grams of trans fat and only 210 calories combined with it being the lowest in most of the other nutrition facts makes it easily the best fast food chicken sandwich around. Great job, KFC.
Worst: Hardee's (Big Fillet) & Burger King (TENDERCRISP)
This was actually a harder one to decide on. In the end though, I had to go with Hardee's Big Fillet because, at 800 calories (highest in the comparison) and 1890mg of sodium (highest again) it towers over most of the other items compared by being literally 2-4 times as high. Hardee's did not provide the trans fat content of their food, but something tells me it would be up there as well. Burger King on the other hand did provide trans fat content, and its TENDERCRISP sandwich contains 4 grams of it. Add that to the fact that it's second highest in pretty much all of the other nutrition facts, and you have your second pick for worst chicken sandwich.

My real pick for best onion rings is none of the above. But, since I am forced to give a pick, I'd have to go with either A&W or Sonic's large order. The nutrition facts of A&W's onion rings look really good until you make your way over to trans fat. 4.5 grams is the opposite of really good. Then you have Sonic's version, which is the lowest in trans fat (0.5 grams) which is great. Not so great though is its 640 calories (second highest). I guess if I really had to make a decision here, the real "best" pick is half an order of Sonic's large onion rings.
Worst: White Castle (Homestyle, Sack)
Hmmm, I wonder which onion rings will be the "worst" pick? Oh, I know. How about the reigning and defending champion of my 88 Fast Food Items Highest In Trans Fat list, White Castle's Homestyle sack of trans-fat-rings. 30 insane grams. Is there really any reason to even mention the 790 calories after that? Nope. We can just end it right here.

This was a tough one, as there were a few good choices. In the end though I have to go with the regular Biscuit from McDonald's based on it being the lowest in calories and among the lowest in all of the other nutrition facts (including 0 grams of trans fat). Really though, any of the breakfast items with 350 or less calories and 0 grams of trans fat could be tied for second best.
Worst: Arby's Sausage Gravy Biscuit & Jack In The Box Spicy Chicken Biscuit
Arby's Sausage Gravy Biscuit ends up as one of the worst breakfast items based mostly on two of its nutrition facts. First up is its 961 calories which are 250 calories higher than the item that is second highest in calories, and 700 more than this category's "best" pick. As if that wasn't enough, take a look at its 3755mg of sodium... literally 3000mg more than many of the other similar breakfast items. Jack In The Box's Spicy Chicken Biscuit also makes the cut due to its 7 grams of trans fat (highest in the comparison).
Notes: For this comparison I went with pretty much every single sandwich-type breakfast item there was, and there were a TON of them.

This was pretty tough, but in the end I had to go with lack of trans fat over lack of calories. Sonic's mozzarella sticks contain 0.5 grams of trans fat per serving and in this comparison, that's as good as it's going to get.
Worst: Arby's 8 pc (Large) & White Castle 10 pc
A large (8 piece) order of mozzarella sticks from Arby's packs a pretty insane 849 calories, 26 grams of saturated fat and 2730mg of sodium. Let's also not forget the 2 grams of trans fat. Pretty crazy for just an appetizer. White Castle's 10 piece version is a close second in all of those nutrition facts except one, trans fat, where it ranks the highest with 6 grams.
Notes: For this comparison, since there were so few fast food restaurants offering mozzarella sticks, I decided to compare all of the available sizes from the restaurants that did sell them rather than just one specific size.

Best: Little Caesars (Crazy Bread)
This was another hard one to pick a "best" for because the nutrition facts do not differ that much among the foods. In a case like this, I'd have to go with the food lowest in calories. In this comparison that title goes to Little Caesars Crazy Bread with 100 calories per piece. However, with all of the items compared above containing 0 grams of trans fat, no real significant amount of saturated fat (at least by fast food standards) and being somewhat close in calories, they pretty much all qualify as being this comparison's "best."
Worst: Papa John's (Cheesesticks)
This one is kind of silly. I have no idea why Papa John's Cheesesticks are the only item with a serving size of 2 pieces (the others were all 1 piece) but since I'm making my best/worst picks based on the nutrition facts per serving, I guess I kind of have to go with these. The obvious reason why is that with double the serving, you're eating double the calories, fat, sodium, and other nutrients. Like I said, silly.
Notes: For this comparison I used each fast food restaurant's version a bread stick, with and/or without cheese. Papa John's "Cheesesticks" were the only item whose serving size wasn't 1 piece (it was 2 pieces) and while that kind of throws things off a bit in this comparison, I included it anyway. Another thing to keep in mind about the serving sizes is that all of these items come in orders ranging from 7-10 pieces. So, if you're eating the whole order, you're eating the above nutrition facts multiplied by 7-10.

Little Caesars looks like the winner of this one based mostly on its smaller serving size and therefore lower nutrition facts. Honorable mentions to all of the fast food pizza restaurants compared for containing 0 grams of trans fat.
Worst: Pizza Hut (14" Large Pan Pizza)
With the largest serving size of them all, Pizza Hut appears to be the worst in this comparison, as it is the highest in all of the most important nutrition facts (calories, saturated fat, sodium). However I will add that when you compare any of these items with any of the other items already compared above, pizza really isn't even in the same league.
Notes: For this comparison I used each pizza restaurant's most basic 14 inch cheese pizza.

Fast Food Comparison FAQ

Just in case anything in the above comparison was a little unclear, here is a quick Q&A that will hopefully clear it all up and answer any questions you may have had.

How many calories should a person eat per day? How much fat? How much saturated fat? How much trans fat? How much sodium?

Calories: It depends. But, here's how to figure it out...
Daily calorie intake recommendations depend on many factors. Age, height, weight, gender, metabolism and of course, goals. For example, are you trying to lose weight, gain weight, or just maintain your current weight? Luckily though I have already put something together for occasions just like this. So, for all of your calorie and weight related questions, check out the Guide To Calories And Weight Control. It will explain everything.
Fat: 20%-30% of your total calorie intake.
Recommendations for daily fat intake typically fall in the range of 20%-30% of your total calorie intake. So, if an example person eats 2000 calories per day, 20-30 percent of that would be 400-600 calories. And, since 1 gram of fat contains 9 calories, this works out to be about 44-66 grams of fat per day for this example person. Of course, most of this fat should be coming from healthy sources (like nuts, fish, and olive oil for example) rather than junky sources (like fast food, for example).
Saturated Fat: Maximum of 7% of total calorie intake.
Besides the above amount, another recommendation I've heard for daily saturated fat intake is a maximum of 1/3 of your total fat intake. They both actually end up fairly close to each other. Either way, the answer ends up translating into "not much at all." Saturated fat may not be quite as terrible as trans fat, but it's a not-too-distant second. Speaking of which...
Trans Fat: 0 grams per day.
As I already mentioned in the Fast Food Items Highest In Trans Fat article, The American Heart Association recommends a MAXIMUM of no more than 2 grams of trans fat per day. They then go on to say that there is enough naturally occurring trans fats in some meat and dairy products that most people already reach this maximum 2 grams without the additional consumption of the industrially manufactured trans fats contained in the foods mentioned in the above comparison. So, when you take this intake account (and realize 2 grams is the MAX amount, not recommended average amount) you should really be eating 0 grams of trans fat per day.
Sodium: 2500mg maximum per day.
Recommendations for sodium intake are usually in the range of 1000mg - 3000mg per day, with 2500mg being a fairly common maximum recommendation for the average healthy adult.
What this all means...
Basically, you could walk into one of the fast food restaurants mentioned above, make a very normal, very typical fast food order, and easily leave having met or greatly exceeded every single daily total recommendation in just one single meal. And also bare in mind that the nutritional recommendations you'd be exceeding aren't for something like Vitamin C. They're for ALL of the really bad, really unhealthy things.

What's the deal with carbs? Were they listed above because they are as bad as the other nutrients?

The only reason carbs were one of the included nutrition facts for this comparison is that people are so obsessed with them that I knew I had to include them just to avoid getting emails from people requesting that carbs be added. It was sort of an email-prevention-method on my part. Here's the thing, carbs are not bad. Genereally speaking, there's really just two things you should know. Some carbs are pretty junky (simple carbs like sugar and processed foods) and should be avoided, while others (complex carbs like whole grains, oatmeal, brown rice, beans, fruits, vegetables, etc.) are perfectly fine and should comprise most (if not all) of your carb intake. That's it. End the carb insanity.

Why did you decide to only compare these specific fast food items? Are you taking suggestions for others?

You bet I am! The types of foods compared (fries, hamburgers, breakfast sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, etc.) were all picked because they were the first bunch of fast food items that popped into my head when I was coming up with what to compare. They are, to me at least, the most popular stuff. However, I am aware that I may have neglected to compare other really popular foods. When did you put this thing together and when was it last updated? Is the nutrition info current?

This whole thing was put together in November 2007. At that time, all of the nutrition facts used (calories, fat, etc.) were completely up to date and current. Since this information may eventually change, it's very possible that I'll go back over it all to make sure it's still showing accurate information maybe once a year. Chances are the information won't be changing much, if at all, in that time frame or longer. The only real changes I could see coming may be trans fat related, which I'm sure we will all hear about when it happens and I will certainly update immediately. But stuff like calories, saturated fat and sodium have probably barely changed in decades. A 1500 calorie burger won't become a 500 calorie burger any time soon.

However, if you happen to notice any changes on your own, feel free to contact me and let me know. The same goes for the fast food restaurants themselves. If by some chance any of you guys are reading this and you make any big important changes to any of the above foods, feel free to let me know and I will gladly make the updates.

But I thought Restaurant X stopped using trans fat?

You thought wrong, my friend. For example, KFC made a big deal about going trans fat free. What they didn't make a big deal about is the fact that the whole "trans fat free" thing only applied to SOME of their foods, not ALL. Other fast food restaurants also claim to be removing trans fat from their foods at some point in the future. Well, today is the present. When the future arrives (the end of 2008? 2009? 3009? I have no idea.) and the trans fat is actually removed, I will run to this comparison and make the changes. Until then, they are still using trans fat.

Where did you get the nutritional content of all of these foods from?

Yeah, I don't think so...Sssooooo let's start from the beginning. Time Magazine has called the Iphone(I am an Apple fan) the invention of the year. ??? Really, so all the urbanites out there can call friends, watch tv on the metro while ignoring the woman being groped or even raped on the subway...ok. We just took a nice invention which segregated us all further from one another (if you don't know what I mean ride a metro, you can even find a person who is not plugged in) and made it the crowning achievement of the year. I think we may want to reconsider that idea? I think this year scientist developed a prosthetic finger...sounds pretty incredible. Also, didn't we assist in sustaining a space station above the earth for another year....I would call that pretty incredible...and the inventions that came with that accomplishment alone I think would diminsh an Iphone. It is not Apple's fault that we are fickle as consumers, and media. So lets just look at media and ask them to carefully consider the things they put out there. Ok enough of that!! So I got this image in my email, from a close friend...

Nice you got to love this one. This is a friend who is getting ready to have a bachelor party....things that make you go hmmmmmm. And when asked if this is a premonition of his party he states it would be more interesting than getting another friend of ours out of jail. Well, I guess it depends what he is in jail for....LOL....really I see no humor in this. I note this because I would like to take an opportunity to defend something here. No not crackheads, JEEZ!!

Ladies of the night who work for a living. It is amazing to me that we in society malign them, and create them at the same time. Even the men who take a business trip and on occasion connect with one of these women or all the time, will go back home to the wife and when any mention of them comes up they will hop right on the bandwagon, saying things that are offensive even to me. Which it takes quite a bit to offend me. Yeah, come on lets stop this.

First, ladies if you come correct at home....you know the rest. And if you are cumming (oops, slip of the fingers.....LOL....that was good) correct at home, have some empathy for the women who aren't and the women who are picking up the slack of your fellow sisters. My God, think about how many little girls grow up saying I want to be a $1,000/hr 'trick'. These women fill a need. Also ladies think about it if they weren't doing this you may have to be, cause some of the guys they have to .....'spend time with'....lets just stop there and you can imagine the things they see. Lets just say from the smallest to the bigggest.....from the absolute best looking.....to the ones that would repulse raging rivers. If they weren't helping relieving that need, some of you would have to be getting up off it more often, and since some of you enjoy the power of it, well that would sacrifice that position. So props to these women, from the women who need the relief. Also please understand that these women aren't always spreading their legs, they are on occasion sitting and talking to lonely businessmen, or providing the use of their verbal skills for a little quick relief. And some of you women know you do not want to be doing all that. So be glad that their are women out there willing to hook you up, and make sure that when it is all said and done he cummms...and then comes home...to you.

So now for the men...this is so simple. GET A GRIP....oops lets reverse this order. GET OFF IT, GET A GRIP. If you are in a bed right now, and you are married and that ain't your wife in the bed, and you have a daughter. This is your contribution. That is right you are contributing to issue at hand. OK, OK, OK....stop right there...I know your little girl didn't get enough love...so she started turning tricks. Gross over simplification. MEN, your little girl will develop her picture of how a man treats a woman from what you do. THAT IS A FACT. So if you come home smelling of some other woman, it will paint a hell of a picture. So is getting your 'groove on' more important than that little girl, who will someday be a woman. If so feel free to proceed to the kitchen, get a cleaver, place that thing you call your manhood(just to let you know that isn't really it) but what you call your manhood on the chopping block(nuts to, if you have them), and firmly apply the sharp cleaver in a downward axe swinging motion across the front of your body(it might sting at first, and it definitely will if you don't get a clean cut) but keep doing that til you get a clean separation between your manhood and your body. As you stand there bleeding to death....please understand you have just done the human gene pool a great service and for those of us still left in it...we are appreciative. Yeah, its Halloween...everywhere except in Northeast TN. Here there seems to be a general suppression of the idea of Halloween. There are activities which promote more safety, like Trunk or Treat, or Trunk of Treats...the difference based on the church you go to. That is right the Day of the Dead as it was originally known by pagans, is celebrated and changed here in Northeast TN. It is interesting. Well for all those who celebrate this holiday I hope you enjoy yourselves. I have to work tonight, so I don't think I will be celebrating the season. Cause that is what we are truly celebrating, is the change in the seasons. It is a beautiful time of the year, even with so much death and change occurring. The leaves are changing colors, and falling off the leaves. The temperature is beginning to reflect the true nature of this time of the year. Anyway, to reiterate I love fall, it is so beautiful, and nice and cool. There is a hard frost where I live. I think after this winter I will be moving in to town. This experiment will need to end I think after this winter we will see. Enjoy your Seasonal Celebration!!

So this past weekend I worked a triple shift...that's right so how is that possible unless you were working at Denny's....and I am not!!! Well I worked Sat night, Sun morning, and Sun night. It was a hoot, I made some money but not enough of course. It was better than none. So today we are talking about tipping...not cows you ignorant fucks...tipping servers when you make a choice to go out and eat. Let me break that down for you a little further and capture one specific piece of that...."when you make a choice to go out and eat"....yes you have made a choice to go out and dine. That means you don't want to deal with some factor in your own home (time, the mess, your spouse, your kids) that you are looking to escape by making a choice to go out and eat. When you make that choice to dine with an establishment, they do everything to provide an environment that you feel comfortable within, they do everything they can to provide you food that you will enjoy, and it is the servers task to pull all of that together, and create the perfect dining experience. If the server is successful it is considered in most circles a good thing to tip them. The tip is customarily defined by a percentage of your check. Now, who said anything about math, I know but I will make it easy for you. All you have to do is determine which of the following categories the server fell in with performing their job and creating your dining experience. Here are the categories:

Excellent: You could have not asked for more, drinks filled promptly, food and drinks served quickly, No excuses, and it was clear that the server did all the could to provide you that experience you were seeking.

Average: You got everything in a timely manner, not promptly, but the food was hot, your drinks were filled several times, and they were relatively attentive to your needs for your dining experience.

Below Average: You got most of the things you requested, but not all. Most of the food got to your hot. You received initial drinks and maybe one refill. You had to spend more than 10 minutes looking for your server.

3 categories, broken down as to how you tip:

Excellent: 20%+

Average: 15%

Below Average: 10%

Now how do I compute that you may be asking, here is a little trick; If there are 2 0r 3 places to the left of the decimal (.) on your check multiply that by the appropriate %. For example, your check is $65.49. You were ecstatic with your service(Excellent), then you go 65 * .2=13. That means you would tip them $13. Let's say $65.49 and it was ok(average) service so we would say 65*.15=9.75; and to complete our example, $65.49*.1=6.54.

Some of you may be saying, Well that is alot of money....you are right it is. Please understand, that the server is being paid $2.13/hour. That is the FEDERALLY MANDATED WAGE for tipped employees. These are the tasks this person is performing for that $2.13/hour. They are:

Cleaning the bathrooms
Preparing your food (salads, desserts, etc.)
Cleaning the kitchen, and prep areas
Cleaning the dining room once you leave
Making sure you have clean dishes to eat off of
Making sure that what you ordered is what you get
Giving the bartenders, busboys, and hosts' 20% of what they make

Now, would you do those things for $2.13/hour. Now I have to admit, there are times that waiting tables can be lucrative. But it truly averages out to be not making more than your local government employee. I make these points to make persons aware that some of these people doing this work are doing it to pay their mortgages, feed their kids, keep their lights on. They don't do this to get handouts. A good server needs to be paid for what they do, and they rely on you the person who made a choice to go out and get a bite to recognize that.

The FLIP SIDE if you receive bad and rude service, report it immediately to management. No server should be allowed to stay in the dining room if they have been openly rude, and are completely unapologetic for their actions. People come out to be treated pleasantly, if you can't do it hang up your fucking apron, and don't kill it for the rest of us.

Ok...the basis behind this rant....my average is below 10%....I have been doing this for 20 years, I could agree that I lost a little bit of an edge because I have a professional job, but I know I have not lost it completly..I love the business to much for that. So if you go out to eat and can't afford to leave a tip, have the NUTS, (yeah I said it), to tell the server why you weren't going to tip them. In other words we are left with did I do something wrong, where am I making a mistake that people are not tipping me well.

I can tell you why I don't get tipped well....I am playing the card. Give me a perky set, some blond hair and I would be rolling in it. Misogynistic perspectives here in the area, work to benefit the look that I described in the previous sentence. OOOOHHH did you think I was playing the race card....not me....Never!! I am playing the sex card. I really hate it to when I begin to speak and people look at me like they are looking at a chimpanzee speaking affluent English. So CLOSE YOUR FUCKING MOUTH!! IT IS FUCKING RUDE.

Today I met with Ms Braxton (very charming) from the IRS, and Theresa. WWOOOOHOOO!! Now you talk about fun. Give me a dental exam...PLEASSE!! Well it went good we received alot of useful information. Theresa was very helpful, and did not make it more trying. It is funny how when we meet to discuss issues regarding our divorce, the women we are meeting with always in their own way offer "options" to Theresa. Like the lawyer we met with was emphasizing how she could represent Theresa, and get her a good deal. Until she saw the agreement, and in the end she realized she could not have gotten a better deal than Theresa was getting...I don't think. Anyway the agent we met with hinted at issues pertinent to women....spousal abuse...alimony....child support. When she realized none of these were a factor, you could tell from her reaction she was shocked. LOL!!! Sorry, I am not laughing at the situation, I have to work at subsiding my ...anger. I know anger...what could you be angry about? Well first I took offence at the reference towards these issues. It was also strange how woment think they are slick throwing it out there in the conversation, like I a person sitting in the room, participating in the conversation won't notice. I won't make it a racial issue. That me as an African American male was either beating the shit out of her, or was cheating and she was my baby's momma. I just don't want to go there...I mean we don't think like that in America. Oh and by the way Ms. Braxton was a lady of color (similar to mine). So shake those thoughts!!!

So I am so excited this evening I get home, I got the night off from Lonestar...YEAH!!! I am opening a bag of trail mix I see a ladybug flying by...I then look up and see a couple more. I saw a couple last night thinking a few snuck in last night no big deal. Yeah, right...the I look over in the ceiling corner of my living room and saw a black cluster...or should I say an orange cluster...then in the other corner I find another cluster, and another cluster...that is right I have a ladybug infestation. So I essentially spent the rest of my night collecting ladybugs. YEAH!! Having a few in your house is good luck but what is a hundred plus? Extra good luck....yoohoo sign someone else up. LOL!! They put off a putrid smell also...yuck. A vacuum cleaner would be a good idea right now, and guess what I don't have one. Oh well so much for that idea. Well ..... there goes another one flying by....I love ladybugs....I love ladybugs...I love ladybugs......GO SEE GOD!!! (inside joke)

Lab suspends DNA pioneer Watson

Wow, I thought what the hell could this intellectually superior scientist have done to be suspended? I mean come, this man helped unravel DNA. There is no doubt about his superior intellectual capacity....RIGHT? Read the article:

The Nobel Prize-winning DNA pioneer James Watson has been suspended by his research institution in the US.

Dr Watson has drawn severe criticism over remarks he made in a British newspaper at the weekend.

In the interview, he was quoted as saying Africans were less intelligent than Europeans.

The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory had already distanced itself from the scientist's comments but its trustee board has also now suspended him.

A statement from the Long Island, New York, institution said the action was being taken "pending further deliberation by the board".

Unreserved apology

Dr Watson was due to give a lecture at the Science Museum in London on Friday as part of a book tour. But the museum cancelled the event, saying the scientist had gone beyond the point of acceptable debate.

The Bristol Festival of Ideas has also cancelled an appearance by Dr Watson.

And further critical comment of Dr Watson's views has come from Dr Craig Venter, the scientist/businessman who led the private effort to decode the human genome, and who, by coincidence, is also visiting the UK to promote a book.

"Skin colour as a surrogate for race is a social concept not a scientific one," Dr Venter said. "There is no basis in scientific fact or in the human genetic code for the notion that skin colour will be predictive of intelligence."

In his Sunday Times interview, Dr Watson was quoted as saying he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours - whereas all the testing says not really".

He was further quoted as saying that his hope was that everyone was equal but that "people who have to deal with black employees find this is not true".

The scientist has since said that the way the words were presented did not reflect properly his position.

"I can certainly understand why people, reading those words, have reacted in the ways they have," he said.

"To all those who have drawn the inference from my words that Africa, as a continent, is somehow genetically inferior, I can only apologise unreservedly.

"That is not what I meant. More importantly from my point of view, there is no scientific basis for such a belief."

Scientific endeavour

And in comments published in The Independent newspaper on Friday, Dr Watson tries to clarify his position.

"We do not yet adequately understand the way in which the different environments in the world have selected over time the genes which determine our capacity to do different things," he is quoted as saying. "The overwhelming desire of society today is to assume that equal powers of reason are a universal heritage of humanity.

"It may well be. But simply wanting this to be the case is not enough. This is not science. To question this is not to give in to racism. This is not a discussion about superiority or inferiority, it is about seeking to understand differences, about why some of us are great musicians and others great engineers."

Dr Watson was a joint winner in 1962 of the Nobel Prize for discovering the structure of DNA, the molecule that lies at the heart of heredity in living organisms.

When, some 40 years later, scientists were finally able to read all of the DNA in our cells they were able to show that there was no scientific basis for the concept of race.

People from different racial groups can be more genetically similar than individuals within the same group. Genetic studies show that there is more variability in the gene pool in Africa, than outside.

So what's up Doc. I hear people always say stupid shit, but you would think a Nobel Prize Winner would not step off in it like that. WRONG!!! Now, see this is some shit that will end up being the basis for some other stupid rationalization, by some other old...(your fill it in). It strikes me as odd that people look at Afrikans, or Black Americans, or African Americans and say things like I don't understand why "those people" can't just get it together and act better. It would be difficult for any group of people to think better of themselves when the most intellectual of the majority race looks at them in this way....I would think. Or I wonder if Doc Watson believes that I am able to put that kind of cognizant thought process together. Oh that is right, I guess in his perspective they have bred all that inferiority out of me, since I am a Black American(my reference of choice).

The kicker for me here is the languid, inauthentic sounding recant he offered later, and the sick excuse or lack of one that he offered..in case we interpreted him incorrectly. LOL!!! Hey Doc we got you, we were clear about who you are, what you are, and your perspective towards those not of your own racial makeup. Here is what I made this mean:

Doctor Watson, who assisted in unraveling the DNA (the human genetic code...this is for those poor Afrikaans...I hope they can even read this) looks down on people, and uses sweeping generalizations which if interpreted incorrectly, could lead people to believe he is a bigot. He is not, he just did something human, the same as every other human. Besides opening his mouth and inserting his foot, he demeaned how he will be thought of by people he doesn't even know (nor do I think he cares to know) and shifted himself from intellectual prosperity to condescending, rude human, whose contributions 40 years ago have changed many lives. This is just in my mind though, not everyone will see him that way.

You know on the issue of race, I notice that rarely do I find noted scientist who are persons of color saying demeaning things about the intellectual prowess of the Caucasian race, but this is not the case in the reverse. Why is that? The intellectual superiority of your race that is it....lol...yeah, lol.....sure Dreamweaver.......but I can't hate 'em I got to love them.

So how are we doing to day folks. Another beautiful day in paradise!!! Not sure why we do the things we do. So a friend who works in a call center told me about a girl came up to her and out'd (closet style) herself. Saying she had a moral dilemma. She was living with her girlfriend, and her husband and the husband didn't know anything about it. First, a man could never pull this shit off it takes a woman to do this. Second, if a man did pull this off, he can be assured that he is living a LMN drama, and someone has to be shot, raped, or wrongfully accused of the two aforementioned points. Third, if the hubby did know about it.....there is a strong probability he would be cool with it. We all know how men are. Here is the conversation:

Wife: Honey, I have something to tell you.

Hubby: wha? (I am putting that eastern TN connotation to it, cause this is where this potential Springer situation exists.)

Wife: (Girlfriend, insert name) and I have been going down on one another, and I think I love

To my former employer...

I wish you well in all your future endeavors. You may want to reference the issues that SAP and Pricewaterhouse are having with implementing a payroll system for the LA School System. I just want to show that you are not alone.

As soon as you grow backbones I am sure you will be able implement at a better rate. The backbone is not towards the customer as you so often say in the office, when the customer is not around. The backbone is with that sad excuse for a salesman, who goes out and promises more than the company wants to sell, for nothing (as long as he gets his commission, and you pay for his massages). Oh by the way, someone told me once "It is easy to sell a dime for a nickel." I never retorted but this part is for all the other employees...It is ok to sell it for a nickel when it only cost you a penny to make the nickel. Think about!!! Hope no one in the area goes after your programmers, by sending their resumes to other companies who will allow them to work in a creative non-oppressive environment, and provide them adequate leave, and benefits. I really hope that does not happen. :-) !!

Some would think I am bitter, actually I am very appreciative (the owners and the CEO like that). The only points I had an issue with are the grossly prejudicial, sexist, and crude remarks and behaviors which made my work environment ....(I don't want to overstate it)....uncomfortable to say the least.

Oh if you are a company looking for a vertical software for a public services company which can monitor and bill for electric and (hopefully) water services...and a guy comes to you and tells you he works for a company located in northeast TN, I would strongly suggest....refer to the second paragraph, and remember you pay for what you get(What is cheap, is cheap for a reason). This ship is being built as it sails. LOL!!!

So life is a little different now than it was a few years ago since my last post. I read my last posts, and was like.....WOW.... he liked himself a little to much. Who was that pompous, arrogant, obnoxious, over zealous(you can look that one up) ass. OH YEAH!!! That was me. Well, I have calmed considerably since then nothing like being back in the south to bring reality crashing in. We serve up humble pie here in the south in a heaping dose. So if you know me I will update you on life. Theresa Burchett and I got married. Theresa Burchett and I lived in the Silver Spring MD and Alexandria VA areas for about 5 years. Then Theresa found an opportunity she couldn't pass up because of her skill set and what she was passionate about. So we moved to Johnson City, TN. Theresa Burchett and I are getting a divorce. So some of you are wondering ... what happened, some of you say I knew it would happen. Some of you say I bet he couldn't keep it in his pants. Well.................(!(#*!(#&*(#*&@#$*)............thank you for sharing. This is my assessment of the situation. I still love Theresa. Theresa and I were in two different places, and that was affecting myself. I asked for a divorce. There was no one else, there is no grand scheme. I am alone living in TN (for now). I am happy, we are working on a settlement( uhhh no one is paying anyone else, settling debts between us). I may be wrong, but I think in the long run even Theresa will be happier than she was with me. Theresa is still a great person, I am not sure about us being friends, but who knows stranger things have happened. LOL!!! Any man who is lucky enough to have the opportunity to spend the kind of time I spent with Theresa will be a lucky man, as I was. God Bless her.

Well, what are we talking about today? I think it is time for a tirade....................(strap in) . It's a thrill a minute plane ride.... So I shit in the middle of the floor. Someone said I will get that cleaned up. "I will handle it." So I can just shit all over the fucking place stink the place up, and if people don't like it they can kiss my ass I like the smell of my shit.... (oops) unless it makes me and mine look bad, and then someone has got to pay a price for this bullshit. Where is the royal "pooper scooper" I want his fucking head on a platter. What you say you could smell it and you did nothing. "OFF WITH HIS HEAD, HE IS CASTEGATED FROM THE COURTYARD OF OF CAMELOT." .................. Now just to clean this up and clue you in, just like in Excalibur where Aurthur gets fucked in the end, (not by Guinevere, who is fucking the outcast or the concept he was banished for) the king will suffer from a lack of responsibility towards the state of his life and his kingdom,(check that show out)!!!!!!! That felt Good!!

Ok here is the joke, I just received it from a freind. It brought to mind who are the most maligned group of persons in America. I almost said the planet, but then thought I as an American beleive that America is the world, it isn't. (Whoever wants some of that can feel free to bite.) Remember commenting towards your maligned groups don't make it a person just a good old gross American generalization about some group of people. Ok so here is the joke:

The madam opened the brothel door to see a rather dignified, well-dressed

good-looking man in his late 40s or early 50s.

"May I help you?" she asked.

"I want to see Natalie," the man replied.

"Sir, Natalie is one of our most expensive ladies. Perhaps you would prefer

"No one has ever used me three nights in a row. Where are you from?" she asked.

"Really" she said. "I have family in South Carolina."

"I know," the man said. "Your father died and I am your sister's attorney.

She asked me to give you your $3,000 inheritance."

The moral of the story is that three things in life are certain:

1. Death

2. Taxes

3. Being screwed by a lawyer

Hard way to earn your inheritance, (on your back that is) !!!! Maybe some of us need a good fucking before we get our inheritance. If our parents didn't do a good enough job mentally from the start. (Another opportunity to bite, come on)

So there is snow on the ground and I choose to not torture myself by going out with the other lunatics, driving around, creating nuisance and mayhem. I will spend the day at home working from home drinking chai, patting the dog never getting dressed.

So I thought this whole autism epidemic thing was cleared up years ago because they realized that the vaccines they had used for kids was tainted. A large, large batch included the use of some inappropriate materials. I am not sure what the hoopla is all about because I thought I read an article about this issue about 10-15 years ago over this matter. What do I know though I am not a doctor, just a bean counter.
